Abstract

During an epoch of transition from Middle to Late Bronze Age in Steppes of the East Europe arises a new tradition of creation of barrows – construction of long barrows. Construction of long barrows at this time gets mass and system character whereas in an Early-Middle Bronze Age similar cases were individual. The population of Dnieper-Don Babyne culture (DDBC) became pioneers in distribution of new "fashion" to architecture of barrows. Long barrows of DDBC make 95 % of long barrows in borders of Babyne cultural area. It is indicative, that practice of construction of long barrows took place only during an early stage of DDBC. Only individual from such constructions (5 %) concern to monuments of Dnieper-Prut Babyne culture (DРBC) – to the Dnepr-Bug and Dniester-Prut variants. There were two basic ways of construction of long barrows: 1) one- or bilateral powder to already existing ancient barrows; 2) association by powders of two/three barrows placed to the neighborhood. Tribes of Berezhnivka-Mayivka Timber-grave culture of a Late Bronze Age have inherited and have developed Babyne’s tradition of a construction of long barrows. The same cultures of a Late Bronze Age which have come in the stead of DРBC, in particular Sabatynivka culture, have inherited from the genetic ancestor the undeveloped tradition of construction of barrows in which there was no place and to long barrows.
