Abstract

The article deals with the results of the archaeological investigations, carried out during last decades (1985-2010) within the borders of Krasnodar territory and Rostov region RU, which were the part of the Bosporus state in the ancient period. The stress is made on the materials that characterize the archaic-Hellenistic periods (VI-II centuries BC) in the history of the Bosporus kingdom. Special attention is paid to a number of peculiarities of the modern period of the field researches. The author underlines the considerable growth of amount of information during last 25 years due to the systematic and regular investigations of the Taman peninsula and Kuban area: new country monuments were discovered, the borders of the spread and richness of the cultural layers of dozens of the urban and country settlements were specified, the database of the burial places was enlarged, the studies of a number of the Bosporus towns through excavations have been continued. All the above mentioned permits to consider the historical issues of the pre-Mithridates period at a more advanced level.
