Abstract

On the Timber-Grave culture burial’s vessels ornament with “eyelashes” (shot segment, which added to the different ornamental figures) took place. The author had analyzed 215 Timber- Grave culture burials in which the vessels with this ornament are presented and came to several conclusions. The most important of them are as following: a) a probability of location of a vessels with “eyelashes” in burials on the east territory of the Timber-Grave community increases simultaneously with the increase of the peoples age, but on the west territory it was the highest in the group of the people of 7-20-years old; b) this probability is not depended from the sex; c) on the east territory vessels with “eyelashes” is not correlates with the rank position, but on the west territory a probability of location of a vessels with this ornament in burials increases simultaneously with the rise of rank position; d) vessels with “eyelashes” takes a correlation with a chiefs burial of the highest rank and spinner’s burial.

The application of archaeological, ethnographical and folk-lore materials to the analysis of the “eyelashes” semantic needle allow us to interpret these as a symbol of the ship’s hair.
